(An)isotropy measurement with gravitational wave observations

چکیده

We constrain the distribution of merging compact binaries across celestial sphere using GWTC-3 catalog from LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaborations' (LVK) third observing run. With 63 confident detections O3, we relative variability (standard deviation) rate density sky to be $\lesssim 16\%$ at 90\% confidence assuming logarithm is described by a Gaussian random field with correlation length $\geq 10^\circ$. This tightens 3.5\%$ when 20^\circ$. While new O3 data provides tightest constraints on anisotropies available to-date, do not find overwhelming evidence in favor isotropy, either. A simple counting experiment favors an isotropic factor $\mathcal{B}^\mathrm{iso}_\mathrm{ani} = 3.7$, which nonetheless improvement more than two compared analogous analyses based only first and second runs LVK.

Constraining the braneworld with gravitational wave observations.

Some braneworld models may have observable consequences that, if detected, would validate a requisite element of string theory. In the infinite Randall-Sundrum model (RS2), the AdS radius of curvature, l, of the extra dimension supports a single bound state of the massless graviton on the brane, thereby reproducing Newtonian gravity in the weak-field limit. However, using the AdS/CFT correspond...

LISA measurement of gravitational wave background anisotropy: Hexadecapole moment via a correlation analysis

1550-7998=20 We discuss spatial fluctuations in the gravitational wave background arising from unresolved Galactic binary sources, such as close white dwarf binaries, due to the fact the galactic binary source distribution is anisotropic. We introduce a correlation analysis of the two data streams of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) to extract spherical harmonic coefficients of the...

Current status of gravitational–wave observations

The first generation of gravitational wave interferometric detectors has taken data at, or close to, their design sensitivity. This data has been searched for a broad range of gravitational wave signatures. An overview of gravitational wave search methods and results are presented. Searches for gravitational waves from unmodelled burst sources, compact binary coalescences, continuous wave sourc...

Testing post-Newtonian theory with gravitational wave observations

The Laser Interferometric Space Antenna (LISA) will observe supermassive black hole binary mergers with amplitude signal-to-noise ratio of several thousands. We investigate the extent to which such observations afford high-precision tests of Einstein’s gravity. We show that LISA provides a unique opportunity to probe the non-linear structure of post-Newtonian theory both in the context of gener...

Measuring Gravitational-Wave Propagation Speed with Multimessenger Observations

A measurement of gravitational wave (GW) propagation speed is one of important tests of gravity in a dynamical regime. We report a method to measure the GW propagation speed by directly comparing arrival times of GWs, neutrinos from supernovae (SN), and photons from short gamma-ray bursts (SGRB). We found that the future multimessenger observations can test the GW propagation speed with the pre...
